What is Generative AI?
Generative AI is a collective term for AI technology based on large foundational models that can generate new content. This could be music, video, speech or images – but text is probably the most well-known.
Some of the most recognised Generative AI products are:
ChatGPT (OpenAI), Claude (Anthropic), Midjourney, Gemini (Google), Copilot (Microsoft) and Grok (X).
Whilst Generative AI differs from traditional AI, which primarily categorised and predicted by being able to generate, these generative capabilities can also be used for categorisation and prediction. Generative AI can thus generate metadata on other data or generate code that can perform deeper analyses. In this way, Generative AI's applications are broader than just ordinary text generation.

In November 2022, ChatGPT was released to the public in its first version, and since then all businesses have had to grapple with AI. And there is no way around it: the technology is so flexible that it is described as a new foundational technology that can support all processes and logic across a business.
